Any lawyer or cop- knows how difficult it is to obtain a search warrant and then defend it. In Idaho, a wiretap warrant is nearly impossible to get. You have to show that you have no other methods of acquiring information or evidence before a judge will issue a wiretap order.

It is the ultimate intrusion into your privacy.

For days, I have been reading the comments written by the leftists, statists, and the sheep of this country who think that perhaps the government is justified in seizing millions of records. They take pity on the poor old government saying that it will have it's work cut out for it sorting through all of the things that they have seized. Some say that Bush started all of this- as though somehow Obama's administration is compelled to continue to keep violating our fourth amendment rights.

I could care less who or what is to blame for allowing this. I want the routine violation of my rights to stop. I am a Verizon customer, I have standing, and I did not authorize the release of my information to anyone.

Welcome to The National Fiction- The Sunday Collage

Like many Americans, I was once consumed by the exertions of daily survival. Everyday, I would get up to go to work at 6 a.m. Often, I would get off at 6 p.m. In my little corner of the world, the only access to news was on the television at night and I didn't spend my time watching that. I was drinking beer and watching whatever sporting event was being broadcast on ESPN.

On the weekends, I was in Nevada playing poker, weekend motorcycle trips. What I am trying to convey here- is my utter lack of knowledge as it concerned world events up until late 2007. I just didn't care. I suspect that most Americans are the same way. They are busying living their lives, consumed with improving their lot- focused on work, raising kids, caring for their elders, getting by. 

There is this national assumption, this archaic and sometimes false belief, that our government works mostly in our best interests. So we tend to ignore government because we kind of trust it- and rarely does it ever impact us directly or adversely. We assume also- that our leaders would not deceive us. Why would they? One of the symptoms of government and politics are the "party zealots." These are the people who always think they know your agenda- if you aren't part of their party- you must be from the enemy party. They adamantly defend their opinions while ridiculing yours. They can't see the forest because the trees are in the way. Even though 50 years of wretched government has left us bankrupt- they are still busy fixing blame on the other party, George Bush, Jimmy Carter. I simply dismiss these types. They have bought into the national fiction. The ridiculous notion that it is the "other party" which has caused all of our problems. Two wonderful examples, both of which I read daily, are the Huffington Post for liberals, and Ace of Spades for conservatives. These two groups are so heavily invested in our side is right that they simply will not entertain any thought- that they might be wrong. They kind of remind me of polarized Islamic extremists sans Mohammad. They fight a war without end. 

They are a large part of the national fiction. The grand distraction which seeks to divide us and keep us fighting. The real problem that we all face is not a political one but rather, a moral one that is far more mathematical than philosophical. It is evolutionary and historically, just as predictable as gravity. It is the war between the haves and the have nots. That is the real war in a capitalistic society where your interests can be protected and the other guy's interests diminished or eliminated- just so long as you have the resources to cast the higher bid. 

That's why the bankers own this place. They cast the highest bid. Not only are they in control of the money supply, it is that very money supply with which they use to buy Congressional and Presidential support. They can create money without restraint. They own your land, your house, your car, your credit rating. They own you. You cannot compete. The bankers own this place. They are the 1%. The rest of us are disposable. We are the hoi polloi, dutifully sending our money in.

Imagine playing Monopoly against a banker who can print as much money as he wants. No matter how many times he lands on your hotel on Boardwalk- it means nothing to him. He simply pays the rent and creates more money with which to pay you the next time he lands on Boardwalk. You can never beat him because his money supply is infinite and yours isn't. So like the forces of gravity the game becomes predictable. You will lose. There is no other possible outcome. 

Now all of that might be depressing and it certainly is- to discover that you are really nothing special- just another banker's slave. Until such point that awareness comes to you. 

President John F. Kennedy, while hosting a reception for 42 Nobel laureates, was quoted as saying that this was the greatest gathering of intellect at the White House since those days when Thomas Jefferson dined alone. Jefferson was a polymath, a genius in many subjects. This is what he had to say about central banking.

“The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered. ”

The national fiction is that we are fighting some political war between two political factions. Nothing could be further from the truth. 

We are fighting bankers. They have stolen the wealth of this country and they are eroding our way of life. Little by little, with the aid of a complicit Congress who sold out to them long ago and which now relies on them for re-election, the bankers are more than happy to let you think this is some Republican v Democrat issue. It is not. It is about keeping power, control, and wealth. The bankers have control of your Congress, your President, they control corporations and the media, they finance every war and spending bill, they even own the municipalities you live in through the issuance of loans and municipal bonds. They own you and your work product with interest- and your only defense is to accept that reality. Until such time that millions of Americans suddenly wake up and destroy this central banking nightmare- Americans will be engaged in the national fiction- that this is somehow all the fault of conservative or liberal beliefs and practices. Of party politics. I respectfully submit that politics is not the problem. It never has been. Politics is just the most obvious symptom of a problem Thomas Jefferson saw long ago. Politics is a distraction that the bankers are more than happy to let you continue to believe in. 

Because it works.

Of course the man himself never offers an explanation- that would be too easy. He pleads the fifth every time a scandal breaks. "I heard it on the news like everyone else." Remember that grand piece of bullshit? This man who met with the I.R.S. 157 times.

Obama was obsessed with punishing his enemies- that is clear. He should be held accountable for this abuse of power... but my expectations are quite low coming from this government that is as morally bankrupt as it's leader is.

Cure Cognitive Dissonance For Life!- The Sunday Collage

I am only able to write and speak freely on this blog because people gave up their lives so that we could have a taste of freedom.

So this Memorial Day, I would like to say thank you to the men who died so that I can live the American dream. I can write what I want in this place. I can choose the career that I want and live the kind of life that is simply not possible- in so many other places. I can love my country and hate my government. That's legal and patriotic. But most importantly, I can recognize the truth. I don't have to make the truth conform to my beliefs any longer- I make my beliefs conform to the truth.

Please note that I said "any longer." This would be an excellent spot to offer up a definition of the term "cognitive dissonance."

Cognitive dissonance occurs when individuals are confronted by facts which are in conflict with their existing belief systems. This causes people to become quite uncomfortable. They have a choice to make when confronted with an inconvenient fact. (a) They can rationalize away the fact using any number of rationales and escape methods or (b) they can accept the fact as truth and readjust their beliefs.

Cognitive dissonance gets worse for people when a whole body of inconvenient truths and facts are presented or when the truth gets so overwhelming that they can no longer deny the possibility that they might have been wrong all along.

It has been my experience that people choose (a) almost exclusively. People will alter the truth to conform to their beliefs. People rarely let the truth alter their beliefs. This is the heart and soul of cognitive dissonance.

Let me offer up a wonderful example of this. As briefly as 7 years ago, I once believed that we lived in a democracy. In fact, I cannot remember any instructor anywhere including high school or college, that steadfastly maintained that the U.S. was founded as a republic and not as a democracy. This failure to distinguish the difference between a democracy and a republic includes a vast amount of otherwise educated human beings. I actually find it quite hard to fathom that so many people know so little about our republic. Yet, I numbered among the offenders not so long ago.

The difference between a republic and a democracy is enormous. A republic practices a rule of law where the minority are protected from the whims and oppression of the majority. In a democracy- it's mob rule. We practice some democratic principles for sure- but the founders were well aware of the oppression of the majority. Without law, democracy is simply mob rule. The rule of law is not important when the mob can make some rational case for ignoring it. The mob won out in 1942, when Japanese Americans were denied the rule of law and placed in relocation camps. Had someone, anyone, had the courage to mention that Japanese Americans enjoy the same rights as the rest of us and that we live in a republic, perhaps the mob could have been held at bay. But it wasn't. (I have had a healthy argument or two with people who still adamantly defend that decision)

So people chose (a) back then. The mob's best thinking thought Japanese Americans might be loyal to Japan. That fear, which amounts to nothing but an errant opinion or belief, strikes at the very heart and soul of cognitive dissonance. So you see, with no evidence, proof, or facts to back up their case- the mob won. They were not about to let the facts change their errant belief systems. They changed the facts- rationalized them- to suit their beliefs and they damaged a whole lot of people in the process.

I cannot tell you- how many times- I have gotten into online rants or read the comments of people who think we live in a democracy. If you asked 100 people in this country what kind of government we have- I am not kidding you when I say that I believe at least 95% would say we live in a democracy.

How profound and widespread is cognitive dissonance?

Cognitive dissonance applies to virtually everything in your life- not just politics- but every opinion and belief that you hold. Whether that's God, abortion rights, health care, or politics. We all hold beliefs and opinions. But that's all they are. That is all they ever were. A bunch of opinions that we march around like they are matters of fact and in the worst case- we adamantly defend our positions, diminish others, and sometimes kill other people who disagree. All of this ego insanity came to a head for me in 2007. And like some tsunami of awareness, it buried me. The waters have been receding ever since and revealing just how asinine all of that is.

There is evidence suggesting that the more theanterior cingulate cortex signals conflict, the more dissonance a person experiences and the more their attitudes may change.

The first step in arresting the harmful effects of cognitive dissonance is realizing that you have it.

There are millions upon millions of people who adamantly believe fraudulent opinions and who will refuse to bend- even when confronted with overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This is a dominant feature of politics. This is also a dominant feature of the human condition. Some of the most intelligent people I know- cannot grasp the simple truth that they might be wrong. The tsunami has not come for them. Perhaps it never will.

I don't try to make the best evidence bend to my beliefs anymore- I change my beliefs to accommodate the best evidence.

Does the sun always rise in the east? Not exactly- but I'm not sure it matters. It sure as hell ain't worth arguing about.
