Polar Disorder

For about ten months, I've been looking for some "meaningful" work. Meaningful as I use the term, means helping folks improve their lives. Cooking a piece of shoe leather for a hungry customer does not fit within my definition of "meaningful" although it certainly might be meaningful to a cook or a to a hungry customer.

I stumbled into this blurb while scanning my usual informational sources.

Mental health: What's normal, what's not

Mental health vs. mental illness — Find out how mental illnesses are diagnosed and defined.

From MayoClinic.com

What's the difference between mental health and mental illness? Sometimes the answer is pretty clear. People who hear voices in their heads may have schizophrenia, for instance. And those with such grandiose ideas as becoming the secretary-general of the United Nations without any experience may be having a manic episode caused by bipolar disorder.

I focused on the last line. Clearly, as I seek work, I realize now that I suffer from polar disorder.

You see, I don't have any delusions about becoming the secretary general of anything. In fact, I have reduced my expectations to something just a shade over minimum wage. And while 'm not sure exactly what a secretary general of the United Nations accomplishes, I'd settle for helping a drunk guy get sober, or an angry kid being a little less angry. For about 10 bucks an hr. That's how much I made in 1980. Give or take a buck.

That's how it is for those of us in this economy with Polar Disorder. We've reduced our expectations to just a shade over minimum wage. But then again, maybe I should not fear some manic episode that leads to my applying for some lofty U.N. or government gig or cabinet position. The results of my job seeking, lofty or lowly-however you view it- are just about the same.

OUT CUMBENTS

I'd like to introduce a word that has been circulating.

It is the word outcumbent. With the exception of Ron Paul in Texas, and just a small smattering of straight shooters, we can slow Frankenstein down a bit in 2010. In fact, it has become so mission critical at this point-that literally our country is at stake. To give these morons more power, R's and D's alike, is like turning Fort Knox over to a security company owned by Bernie Madoff and asking him to keep an eye on it.

Members of our U.S. House and Senate voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 raises for this year.
1. They voted AGAINST giving senior citizens a S.S. Cost of Living raise in 2010 AND 2011. 2. Medicare premiums will go up $285..60 for each of those two years and you will still not get the 3% COLA. That's a total loss of <$3,000> for a retired married couple. 3. Each member of our U.S. House & Senate will get an increase of $10,000 for the same two-year period. 4. You don't feel taxpayers were screwed, do you? If you are not a retiree then remember this will also affect you, not today but tomorrow. This affects ALL retirees.
5. Will our members of Congress have your cost of drugs - doctor fees - local taxes - food, etc., increase?

NO WAY. They have a raise and better benefits. Why care about you? You never did anything about it in the past. You obviously were too stupid or didn't care.

The Bride of Frankenstein

Sorry Charley...

No more StarKist Tuna for me .....

SNOPES" VALIDATES THE FACTS BELOW :

After clicking on the link and reading about Pelosi, all I see is another superficial self serving elitist. Personally I am not surprised. Ms Pelosi, may you find the warm confines of hell to your liking. The heating bills are cheap and waterboarding is like a day at the spa. Afterwards you may serve up a dish of tuna fish casserole, well done of course, to all of your warm and loving friends.

San Francisco's Version of Frankenstein Government Renders Existing Laws Useless

California passes a law that requires people to have a driver's license. Not unheard of. The law is already hard to enforce because you must speak Spanish to glean any useful information while enforcing it. Californians don't want to look politically incorrect while enforcing it on the single biggest group of offenders, illegal aliens. Who because they are illegal aliens, are not supposed to have drivers licenses-sort of. Now the City of San Francisco probably can't repeal state law. So instead, they pass a law of their own. This has the net effect of watering down existing state law to the extent that the state law becomes essentially un-enforceable. Rendered useless. Good deal for illegal aliens and a SF Mayor who want a sympathetic vote from legal aliens and naturalized citizens in the upcoming Governor's race. Bad deal for citizens who are getting injured and killed, paying cops to do a job twice, (first the ticket, then the failure to appear warrant) and spreading the already ridiculously high insurance freight onto the legal motorists of California.

Do you really think a cop is going to stand by-waiting for 20 minutes while an illegal alien arranges a pick up? It takes me more than 20 minutes to get over the bridge. A wink and a nod, adios muchacho. That's how that stuff is gonna get settled. Trust me, I've been there done that.

Sweet. Frankenstein government, San Francisco style...excerpted...

But as The Chronicle's Phil Matier and Andrew Ross reported Monday, San Francisco has a new policy starting on Nov. 1 that prevents city cops from automatically impounding cars driven by giving never-licensed drivers 20 minutes to find someone with a valid license to drive their car. Only if an unlicensed driver is caught again within six months, is there an automatic 30-day impound, which can cost around $2,500.

So otherwise law-abiding residents now refers to people who only violate federal immigration law and the state law that requires that drivers have valid licenses. (And auto insurance.)

Consider it a sop to the pro-illegal immigrant lobby, which has been angered by the Newsom decision to allow SFPD to notify federal immigration officials when illegal immigrant juveniles are arrested on felony charges. After all, Newsom is running for governor.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety updated its study of fatal accidents last year and found that from 2001 through 2005, 20 percent of fatal car crashes involved one or more unlicensed or improperly licensed drivers. In California, 29 percent of fatal crashes involved an unlicensed or invalidly licensed driver. Now, 1,964 those drivers had their licenses suspended or revoked, but 1,802 were simply unlicensed, while 1,200 were unknown - which often means they fled the scene. Those folks should not have been behind the wheel.

The Stock Market Has A Promising Future Behind It, Dos and Adios

In my initial version of the stock market has a promising future behind it, I discussed some of the curiosities of the current bull market rally. A real head scratcher, revenues are down everywhere, no consumers in sight, and yet this rally is starting its eighth month.

Oh yea, I forgot. The ability for corporate CEO's to manipulate a company's stock price by underestimating revenue when queried by analysts and over reporting when reporting day comes.

Is this type of reporting truthful? Absolutely not. But there are always those people out there that will enable this practice to continue. Rationalize and justify the reasons why corporate CEO's must do this. John Wesley Hardin once killed a guy in his sleep for snoring, I suppose John like our current elitist CEO's-both achieved their purpose.

Like I said the first time around, I am absolutely aching to short this ridiculous rally. Just wait until companies must report next year, it makes you wonder what they are going to do for an encore when they won't have the benefit of slashing workforces and expenses.

Here's a link that describes the current foolishness best;

Frankennanny

Man, when I was kid I wanted a nanny. One with big boobs. My dreams went unanswered. Instead, I outgrew my need for a nanny. But the morons found me one anyway. Frankenstein on steroids. Lucky me. This is how they think.

The Rise of Parentalism

In a recent paper published in the journal Public Choice, "Afraid to be Free: Dependency as Desideratum," Nobel Prize–winning economist James Buchanan composes a new taxonomy of socialist threats to liberty. Buchanan argues that the conventional threats to freedom from managerial socialism (central planning) and distributionist socialism (the welfare state) are today joined by paternalistic socialism and "parental socialism," which Buchanan describes as the willingness among many to allow the government to take control of their lives.

The emerging threat to American liberty today, then, is a combination of these latter two forms of socialism—the desire among some in government to interfere in nearly every aspect of our lives, and the lack of concern on the part of many Americans that this is happening. And while conventional critics of capitalism came primarily from the left, the parentalist-paternalist movement isn't as easily marginalized.

No where is this more evident than in my little home town in Idaho. Nanny government has spawned a class of citizens that seemingly never wean themselves, cradle to grave. They pass prohibitive tree cutting ordinances on private property, dog poop ordinances, car idling ordinances, dark sky ordinances. Hell, if you can dream up anything to bitch about at all, light your torches and march on city hall. Next week, they'll pass another 60 million school district levy-thinking perhaps, all this money will turn their kids into geniuses. They love Frankennanny.

Or maybe they are just a bunch of spoiled, whiny ass, and deluded parents willing to spend everyone's money. In Frankennanny we trust. Can't rule that out.

I'd like to introduce this Nobel prize winning economist to the folks in my home town. They'd set him straight. Hell, Buchanan might just take his kids and move there.

I Am Here For All of Your "Givernment" Insanity Needs

Remember that 700 billion TARP package that Hank Paulson jammed thru Congress? All that money he gave to his friends at Goldman Sachs?

This is what the General Accounting Office has to say about it:

One year later, however, a little-noted report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office questions whether the bailout -- known officially as the Troubled Asset Relief Program -- saved anything other than the jobs of greedy Wall Street executives and the political hides of their protectors in government.

"Measuring the effectiveness of TARP's programs has been an ongoing challenge," the GAO report said, adding that "any changes attributed to TARP could well be changes that would have occurred anyway" -- due to policy interventions, the actions of financial regulators or even natural market corrections. In other words, a year after Congress burdened present and future taxpayers with a debt of immense magnitude, government auditors still can't say for sure that TARP accomplished anything toward preventing a financial collapse.

At the height of the bailout hysteria, Paulson appeared on "Face the Nation," saying he hoped the federal government would be able to recoup most of the TARP funds. But today, both the GAO's auditors and TARP Inspector General Neil Barofsky say nobody should hold their breath waiting for that repayment.

In his 256-page report to Congress, Barofsky notes that the Treasury Department's failure to implement anti-fraud measures, or even to require TARP recipients to report how they used the billions Congress and the Treasury Department gave them, makes it highly unlikely that the $317 billion outstanding -- nearly half the TARP total -- will ever be returned to taxpayers. Barofsky also threatened to subpoena documents relating to the Treasury Department's "less-than-accurate statements ... concerning TARP's first investments in nine large financial institutions," as well as its subsequent refusal to report what hundreds of other TARP recipients did with the funds.

So there you have it: Treasury officials lied to Congress and the public, and refused to demand even a basic level of accountability from TARP recipients while borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars that taxpayers will eventually have to pay back, plus billions in interest. Incredibly, just Wednesday, President Obama announced a new TARP-like program for small businesses and community banks. The madness in Washington won't stop until the people completely clean house at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue.

This is absolute thievery and fraud. Everyone participating in this should be indicted and charged. It is a fiasco with no oversight and no accountability. Geezus, I think I got a migraine.
