I think what I find most disconcerting about a lot of the icrap surrounding us is not the technology itself, it's the manner in which it is being used by too many people. For example, it really burns me up when I'm a captive, such as in a crowded bus or restaurant or movie theater or doctor's waiting room, and some idiot thinks it's a brilliant idea to start yakking away on his/her cellphone in a voice that's way too loud, and to hell with everyone else who has to put up with it (I haven't been to a movie theater or restaurant in quite a while now because of this behavior). Inconsiderate idiots. It also strikes me as creepy how I'll see a group of people who are obviously together and yet each is in their own separate world with their own device, not uttering a sound to each other. Strange, isn't it, that a technology which is supposed to bring us closer together is actually pushing us further apart? And what bugs me is when some punk says "text me" rather than accepting a phone call which is faster and more concise in terms of communicating, at least in my view. What is it with this "text me" crappola?
Yep, technology has definitely overtaken our ability to handle it, maturely at least, and now there's a bumper crop of idiots to deal with (or, more likely, the idiots were always there and icrap was the technological trigger which set them free; release your inner idiot [sounds like a good slogan for apple or samsung]).
I agree. Nobody teaches cell phone etiquette.
We were a self centered and rude society already- I don't think cell phones softened that up any. Thanks for stopping by...

Americans don't have a lock on rude and self centered behavior. I've traveled a fair bit and it's everywhere, predominantly in "first world" countries. The French people were the worst I encountered, the Cuban people the nicest.
