The Brainwashing of the American Voter

Our two party political system is not the big conundrum that many believe that it is.

co·nun·drum/kəˈnəndrəm/

Noun:
  1. A confusing and difficult problem or question.
  2. A question asked for amusement, typically one with a pun in its answer; a riddle.

There comes a time in every person's life when they should ask themselves, "Am I part of the solution or am I part of the problem?" For the vast majority of Americans, not only do they fail to stop and consider that concept, but they fail to fully understand how to become a part of the solution.

I am approaching my 9th campaign cycle...cycles in which I was eligible to vote.

Perhaps the simplest way to state this problem or dilemma is through the use of a metaphor. I am a 17 year old pregnant girl living at home. My boyfriend beats me and my father is angry and beats me also. Which man do I stay with? {Play jeopardy tune}

The correct answer is neither. Do you agree? If you do, congratulations, you have arrived at the solution. The safest course of action, given the facts, is to remove both men from your life.

We have an entire culture built upon the idea that we MUST select a candidate from one of our two morally corrupt and monopolistic political parties. Time and time again, commenters and emailers- citizens in general- implore each other to vote for one of these two sadistic men. Well, maybe your dad beats you but at least he provides shelter. I'd stay with him instead of that worthless boyfriend.

And so it goes... and so you do. And yet, we know that selecting one of these two men is not the solution. Why then- do we continue to do it? Why do we keep selecting one of two shitty candidates thinking that we will achieve a different result?

We are dumb shits, that's why. We are just as dumb as the two parties that run this country think we are. We are all 17 year old pregnant girls that think we are stuck with one of these two men. And I think the parties have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt- that this is true. We do it every two years. Over and over again. Now if you can accept the fact that you are an idiot- then there is a chance you can actually land on the solution and extract yourself from this idiot cycle.

How is it possible that we have an entire culture, an entire media empire, and an entire chorus of well educated people still practicing this concept of selecting one violent man because the other choice is even worse?

We have been brainwashed into thinking that any vote not cast for one of these two candidates is a "wasted" vote- when in fact- the only wasted votes are the ones we cast for the men who continue to beat us.

It's not a conundrum. We know what the solution is.

This year, like last year, I am going to vote for the Libertarian candidate. This is what I will get. I am virtually guaranteed that the rich and elite did not select my candidate to continue their status quo tax system that allows them to keep all of their wealth while stripping me of mine.

I will not be voting for the clown prince of golf who seems content to destroy the U.S. by putting the Cloward-Piven welfare strategy into play and destroying our way of life.

I will not be voting for a silver spooned member of the aristocracy who has five mansions. This is a guy who views the White House like it was a HUD home. Check out all five homes here, the article says six but it is wrong. http://www.zillow.com/blog/2012-01-24/mitt-romneys-6-homes/ He doesn't represent my values.

Most importantly- I have escaped the life long brainwashing that still has so many people firmly in it's grasp. I became part of the solution prior to the last election. In fact, many voters including the hard hit black demographic, are talking about staying home on Nov. 6. I understand that actually. They will not be doing any harm by refusing to vote for a communist or an aristocrat. They are voting well or not at all. But it would sure be nice to see Gary Johnson get a few extra votes.

One last thing. I don't want to hear one more brainwashed commenter tell me how to vote and why. I understand you fear another Obama term. Obama is not the enemy. Our "two party"system is the problem. I am not the slightest bit interested in voting for either party or either of these two terrible candidates- up to and including this.

If I knew I was casting the one tie breaking and thus winning vote (which of course is not possible) for the communist or the aristocrat- I wouldn't. I would still vote for Johnson.

Some of us have figured out the solution. We don't support abusers or a system so completely broken that only an idiot would continue to support it. Vote well or not at all.

To vote for any of the two mainstream parties is to voluntarily participate in my own enslavement. I refuse to cast a ballot for some sociopathic parasite, Republican or Democrat, who feels that he knows better than do which choices I should make and how my life should be lived. To vote for either of these two control freaks is an admission that I am an idiot and that I cannot be trusted to do what is in my own best interest, an admission that I am not a responsible adult. Furthermore, to vote for "my man" is selfish in the extreme, since I am hoping that he will win and will use his newly minted power to extract concessions from the remainder of the population who did not vote for him. I say to Hell with both of them. I choose to vote for myself. I choose to vote Libertarian.

Yes, very good. So we will have 4 more years of the muslim, kenyan usurper. You have each earned the right - with the highest honor bestowed on noble men such as yourselves - to cut your nose off to spite your face.

Please re-read the article. There is a reading comprehension fail light blinking on my computer.

First of all, we need to get back to the rule of law. A muslim, kenyan, usurper as president of the united states should not be possible. The only way for the people to right the ship is to kick him out of office. The courts will not allow this to happen, the congress will not allow this to happen. Therefore the only means the people have to achieve this is by voting. It is a fact the Mr. Johnson has no chance. If Mr. Johnson has no chance and the nation needs to return to the rule of law, then there is only one way to do that: a patriot must vote for mitt romney.

IF the two major parties both present eligible candidates, then i don't care how you vote. Your reasoning in the article i failed to understand does not rise to the level to convince me that YOUR politics should trump helping to reelect a USURPER. I'm sorry, but there are no words, logic, proportion you can use to justify a vote for Mr. Johnson IN THIS ELECTION. These are my opinions only and thank you for letting me express them.

You know I love ya, Brian, but I have to take issue with you on this one. You know that I am within spitting distance of being a libertarian myself. My biggest difference with libertarians is in difference in thier definition of national defense and mine. It is a matter of where to draw the line in the sand. Apart from that I must say holier than thou attitude of libertaruans is getting a bit tiresome. My libertarian friends (I have many)claim to be the only ones with principles and they are the only ones who see the two party system for what it is and they are the only ones who by voting third party are doing something to try to fix the problems. Well, there are a lot of conservatives like me who also have principles and we are not brainwashed. We see every wart on the two party system that libertarians see. And, we also think we are doing something to fix the problem. Many of us, like the Tea Parties, are working to reform the Republican Party. A clasic liberal friend the other day told me there is no way to change the Republican Party because the game is rigged ny the big boys. Yet, the Tea Parties have elected some people who are making a difference in Washington and are affecting the debates. Not all Tea Party candidates have worked out and they will have to be changed. We are under no illusion that this reform will happen over night. But Tea Party conservatives are worming their way into the Tepublican Party at the local and state level and eventually at the national level. That is doing something positive toward fixing the problem.

Friends in the Libertarian Party are always telling me that their way is the only way to fix the problems. I tell them that when they have elected enough members to the House and Senate to make a difference, to please let me know and I will reevaluate my position. In the mean time I and many other conservatives will continue to work at reforming the Republican Party. If the libertarians get there first, I will say God bless them.

Jim...

This is what i don't understand.

I don't understand how intelligent and degreed people continue to think and do the same things over and over again and hope for different results.

When is this country going to wake up Jim? You can't reform the GOP. It is one giant mongrel dog party. They don't want reform. What they want- is obedient voters like you to stfu and continue to vote for them so that they can continue to abuse power, run up deficits, avoid taxes, and have our disposable kids killed in banker wars.

That's what they've been doing. And obedient voters keep supporting these bags of shit.

I'm out. I woke up.

Now you can all go out and vote for the next aristocracy. Romney is nothing but Obama lite. In fact- the libs should love this guy. People just can't get it. Look at the commenters Jim. They are still mired in the philosophy that Romney is better than Obama. Or that Bush was better than Gore. THEY ALL SUCK. And just because one sucks less than the other is not a reason to vote for either.

I'm tired of fighting other peoples wars too Jim. The libertarians have an actual platform with tenets that members stick by. That act in and of itself elevates the libertarians far and above these other two mongrel parties because when you pull the lever for a libertarian you know exactly what you are getting. No wars, limited government, maybe even legal dope. 50 years of drug wars and trillions of dollars and I can still go out buy dope in two minutes.

But then again, learning never seems to be our strong suit.

Thanks for stopping by...

Brian
